If you are planning on shopping in the USA, you need to know that American clothes sizing standards are even more loosely defined than the European ones.
That is why you may want to familiarise yourself with a given manufacturer’s individual size table. The tables below are intended to serve for approximation only.
Did you know?
A tendency towards the, so called, vanity sizing can be observed in a number of countries including the USA. Vanity sizing is basically giving a lower-than-standard size number on the label so that it appears that a person fits into smaller clothes sizes than he or she normally would. For example, the measurements which would correspond to size 14 a few decades ago, may now be anything from size 0 to 8. Sometimes you may even come across sub-zero sizes!
This phenomenon has been caused by customers’ demand to feel good about their bodies.
