Children’s clothes sizes in UK

The chances are, that quite a few years have passed since you were wearing children’s clothes sizes yourself. It is also very likely that you didn’t use to pay any attention at all to the numbers on the labels of clothes you used to wear as a child. UK children’s clothes sizes are based on the age (to compare, EU sizes are named according to a child’s estimated height rather than age).

In a baby’s first 18 months, weight is an important factor for determining clothes size (as babies typically treble their birth weight within 1,5 years!), while older children need to have chest, waist and hips measurements taken.

From about 10-12 years of age (depending on a brand), as children enter puberty, girls’ and boys’ clothes sizes start to differ.
