How much energy does an electric boiler use?

0 937

The vast majority of UK households use gas boilers, as the math is simple: electricity costs ca. 15p/kWh while gas 4p/kWh.

However, there are some factors that speak in favour of electric heating. How much energy does an electric boiler use and what are its advantages?

UK manufacturers offer electric boilers which range from 4 kW to 14.4 kW power rate. Typical UK household needs about 12,037 kWh energy per year to heat up their home or, to put it in a different way, about 160 kWh per square metre of the living space; to compare, the Portuguese need about 16 kWh/m2 due to the warm climate while.

Did you know?

Why do some people decide to install an electric boiler instead of a gas boiler?

- The initial cost of installing an electric boiler is lower.
- Electric boilers provide heating for the UK population which has no access to the mains gas supply. Bottled LPG gas is inconvenient and less economic.
- Electric boilers are quiet.
- Electric boilers are small enough to fit into a kitchen unit.
- Gas boilers have the maximum efficiency of 90% (for example because some of the heat escapes through the chimney), while electric boilers are close to 100%.

Technically Scotland doesn't count because they abolished the use of counties, hence why Inverness shire is not on the list.
